I've been making Snickerdoodles since I was a child. These little cookies, covered with sugar and cinnamon, are soft and chewy. They are favorites of my husband and he was excited to come home and learn that I've made them.
I taught my college roommate, Janiel, how to make them and the first time around, she made the classic mistake of mixing the cinnamon and sugar into the cookie dough. They don't turn out well that way. I saw her for the first time in over 30 years recently (brought together by Facebook!) and she reported that she has become known throughout her family and her church for her Snickerdoodles.
What do you know about that?
SNICKERDOODLE COOKIE RECIPE
Cream together:
- 1/2 cup magarine
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
After that is mixed together, add 2 eggs and beat until mixed throughly.
Sift together
- 2 3/4 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon soda
- 2 teaspoons cream of tarter
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Mix dry ingredients into the wet ones.
Stir together but do NOT add to the cookie mixture.
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
Roll cookie dough into balls and then roll the balls in the sugar/cinnamon mixture.
Bake on a greased cookie sheet at 400 degrees for about 8-10 minutes.
Makes about 3 dozen cookies.
Try not to eat too many of them! (This is the hardest task I have given you.)
