Quote of March 7, 2008

Not exactly quote of the day, but hey... it will do. I've just been through a Boutique upgrade this week. I'm seriously rethinking the Quote of the Day project, as well. Maybe I have taken on too much with it. Perhaps, I need to rename it, "Quote of Whenever I Can Come in Here and Quote Something".

Sounds reasonable.

Okay, on with the show...

"Even the woodpecker woes his success to the fact that he uses his head and keeps pecking away  until he finishes the job he starts." - Coleman Cox

That would pretty well sum up this week. I thought the whole thing would be easy. We had tested and retested the Boutique in the Beta environment since September. But inside of my heart, I knew it couldn't be easy to go from a testing environment with four testing products (because I couldn't duplicate my database and end up with two of them) to a live store with tens of thousands of products.

Emmm.... It wasn't.

But it is all good. Things are working well. The bigger bad problems have been smoothed out now and life is good again. The "oh, by the way, the server wants to have *MySQL problems at the same time" issues were fixed today (thus the collapse of the server three times in 24 hours... MySQL was waving its little white flag saying  SOMEONE, please patch me!", the kid who showed up on my door this afternoon and demanded $5,000 because he had co-signed on a loan with one of my adult sons went away (yes, he wanted me to give him part of my retirement account because, as he reasoned, he was broke), the front door was placed back in the house (the contractor goofed - that's a whole story in itself), the sleeping pill I accidentally took yesterday morning wore off, my daughter got her car back from the repair shop (although, she got a "fix it" ticket on the way home because a light was broken), and I finally got something to eat.

Whew.

There is much more, but I'll spare you the gory details.

Just believe me when I say that this little woodpecker has been drilling away at multiple trees all week. I am very happy that it is Friday night. I am hoping that Saturday and Sunday will let me catch a breath of air.

But boy... check out the Boutique. We have a WORKING search engine (at last! I am so happy I could cry over that one alone. People have seriously complained about it since 2005 and I couldn't do a thing to fix it for them because it wasn't our software and I knew it would take a major overhaul to be fixed... which it did...) and cool hover graphics on our product details pages. And other neat things such as the ability to filter categories and stuff.

Sorry for the run on and extreme compound sentences. They are flooding out of my head like the sounds of phones ringing at the same time. (This week, too.)

I'm going to show you a couple of photos.

(Overhead conversation between Ro and Valerie, February 2008)

Ro: I'm the Energizer bunny!

Valerie: If you don't put that camera away, you can't have dessert. Stop it.

(Mental conversation overhead, post-Boutique upgrade. March 7, 2008:)

Ro1: Dessert. Where is the dessert? Did someone take my dessert?

Ro2: No, you are just in shock. Go lie down.

Ro1: No, seriously... I'm looking for dessert. I need dessert.

Ro2: Why don't you ask someone for some help, then? Get some dessert if you want it so much.

Ro1: That requires effort.

Ro2: Maybe if you quit blogging, you could open your mouth and ask for dessert.

Ro1: Good point. I'll do that now.

*For the uninitiated: MySQL has to do with boring stuff like databases. Databases store information and drive the activities of servers. If a MySQL request gets "stuck" it starts burning up too many resources and the server gets slower and slower and slower.... Until someone fixes it. Or gives it dessert. Whatever is easier.

----

This would be a very good day for me to beg you to forgive any spelling, grammatical, or errors in my blogging logic. Now, onto the dessert. It will involve some sort of chocolate...
