Peaches, pears, bottles and an Easy Page class – Oh my!

I keep thinking we are almost through canning, but nope… more bottling is on the schedule today. But the time I’m finished, I will have bottled some more peach jam, pear jam, and a few quarts of each. This will be the first time I’ve bottled pears on my own, so it should be interesting. I think I’m going to attempt some pear spice jam. I’ve found a recipe on cooks.com, which looks interesting. I’ll tell you how it turns out.

These pears are so yummy! It’s the first pear tree I’ve personally owned.

Based on what I’ve been doing so far, I’ve got enough peaches here for two batches of jam and 7 quarts of peaches.

Of course, I’ll have my little shadow watching me.

Gotta run. I’m teaching a digital scrapbooking class for our church ladies group today. It will be an Easy Page class. Here is the Easy Page I made for the class. The little cutie is my grandson, Raevyn.

Digital scrapbook layout by scrappinchar

2 page layouts. Multi-photo layouts. I don’t do enough of them. For some reason, I am slightly intimidated by the thought of laying them out. But when I saw this layout in the Scrap Girls gallery by Char, I thought, “I could do this!” It appeals to my orderly mind. (I love lining things up, for some reason. Maybe it’s the OCD?)

The colors are beautiful. Notice that she has used a style that puts a glitter edge around the photos. I think it’s pretty.

Notice that she has made it perfectly clear when these photos were taken, too?

Digital Scrapbooking Layout: By the Sea by kidsrgr8

How could I resist this lovely digital scrapbooking layout by kidsrgr8. (Lynn), discovered in the Scrap Girls Gallery? It’s a beautiful example of what can be done with photos while scrapping. The font she picked – Blackadder – is perfect for a digital scrapbooking page about a visit to the beach.

She created the blue edge on her layout with the ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Edgy. She also created the chicken wire embellishment with a brush set and style set. (Isn’t it cool?) She created her own personal beach ribbon by using the ScrapSimple Embellishment set shown below.

The layout makes me anxious to scrap some of the photos I took in Hawaii!

Digital Scrapbooking Layout: His Eyes

This digital scrapbooking layout of my grandson, Raevyn, makes me a little misty-eyed when I look at it. Isn’t he a beautiful boy?

We haven’t seen him for two years now. His mom took him off and purposely doesn’t let us know where he is. She moves around a lot. The word is that she recently got married and has another child. She reappeared early this month, called my son up and asked him to come to St. George with $50 because she had “something to tell him”.

Stephen couldn’t do that because…

1. He is handicapped and doesn’t have access to his money without the permission of my husband. Social Security has Gary set up as his guardian.
2. The last time she reappeared, we had a very ugly time of it. I’ll spare you the details. The good thing about what happened is that we took care of him for a year and that allowed us to know him.
3. Stephen doesn’t have the ability to go anywhere.

The sad thing about all of this is that Raevyn is entitled to get Social Security payments because Stephen is on Social Security He can’t possibly pay child support so Social Security covers it. But since his mom won’t tell us where they are, we can’t get it set up for him to receive.

He’s handicapped, like his dad, and so I worry about him. I hope I get to see him again someday.

Thus the melancholy when I look at this digital scrapbook layout I created. I designed it so it wouldn’t distract from the photo. After all, it’s the star of this show.

But you know what? It’s all good. Digital scrapbook layouts should cover all of our lives – not just the happy, giddy parts of it. We are complete people. Our albums should demonstrate this.
